South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) provides research and development services to the state government, commercial clients and research partners to help make South Australia’s primary industries and regions internationally competitive and ecologically sustainable. SARDI’s programs are designed to increase the productivity, sustainability and adaptability of the state’s agriculture, food and wine, fisheries and aquaculture and bioscience enterprises, create opportunities for market growth, address barriers to growth and provide applied solutions.

The Research/Senior Research Agronomist, Farming Systems) will work with the SARDI/GRDC bilateral research agronomy team and the Research Scientist (NVA Waite) to develop skills in research, agronomy and farming systems and to undertake scientific research, development and extension that focuses on soils constraints to crop productivity and low rainfall farming systems. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring strong linkages and regular communication with the rest of the SARDI/GRDC bilateral research agronomists and the Principal Research Scientist Farming Systems and for ensuring that the research findings from their work are communicated to industry effectively and timely. This will include active engagement and participation in grower and industry meetings, and communicating and collaborating with relevant farming system groups. Based on your capabilities and experience you may be considered at the PO1 or PO2 classification.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

The applicant must have a Bachelor Degree in Agriculture or equivalent

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

This is a contract / term vacancy up to 60 months. Interstate and intrastate travel and some out of hours work, weekend and public holidays travel will be required. A current Class C driver's licence is essential. Use of common agriculture chemicals is required and a Chemcert chemical handlers certificate or a willingness to obtain one is essential. Requires field work to be undertaken which will result in and exposure to dust and pollen.
