The Menzies Research Institute Tasmania is looking for a new Director, following the resignation of Professor Simon Foote who has taken up his new position as Dean of the Australian School of Advanced Medicine at Macquarie University, Sydney.

Professor Foote held the position for six and a half years, and had worked at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) for the previous decade.

The Menzies Research Institute is based in the University of Tasmania, employing over 300 staff and engaged in research programs ranging from basic studies on the genetic, genomic and biochemical mechanisms that underlie health and disease, through to population health studies.  The institute is co-located with the Faculty of Health Science in the new Medical Science Precinct, stage 2 of which is scheduled for completion in 2013.

Professor Alison Venn will step into the role of Acting Director while an international search takes place to fill the position.
