The UTS Research & Innovation Office is recruiting for a Research Development Strategist to lead a small team focused on partnering with researchers and their collaborators to develop high quality and successful research grant, fellowship and centre proposals.

A specialist role within RIO you will specifically, be charged with improving success in ARC schemes, with a secondary focus on NHMRC and other externally competitive research centre schemes, and the development of a long term strategy for sustained growth from these funding sources.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

• contributing to the identification and development of research funding strategies and initiatives to improve application and success rates for major funding opportunities.
• working closely with the Research Operations and Management and Research Engagement Teams to provide advice to researchers and partners in regard to the rules and submission requirements for major funding schemes
• actively identifying and influencing potentially successful applicants to submit high quality research grant proposals
• actively engaging potential and existing external partners to establish relationships and secure commitments to collaborate with UTS researchers in grant applications
• working collaboratively with the rest of RIO in all aspects of the development and implementation of strategies for improving UTS research grant performance and in the development and submission of specific research grant proposals.

 To be successful in securing this role you will have:

• extensive experience and proven capability in developing successful major research grant applications and/or successfully funded business case development;
• advanced understanding of the Australian Competitive Research Grant environment
• demonstrated understanding of the rules and strategies for applying for research grants and achieving grant application success
• knowledge and understanding of the protection and management of intellectual property arising from a university environment
• extensive experience in developing and implementing strategic plans in relation to research and increasing funding
• demonstrated and proven capability in increasing research funding
• demonstrated expertise in building highly effective working relationships with Government and non-government organisations, including an ability to exercise initiative, tact and discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential matters.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: An attractive and competitive remuneration package will be offered.

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary. Employee benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.

This appointment will be on a 5-year fixed term full-time basis.
